I visited Bali in September 2014. I just finished a photography introduction course and decided to get into action. Meeting up with a professional photographer who showed me around Bali helped to get the shots I wanted.
One of the best spots we hit is the Gianyar night market. I truly felt as a tourist here: 99% of the people were locals. A genuine place, with lots of angles to capture by my Nikon.
Photo tour
“A photo tour with a local photographer is a great way to get to know the environment and safe a lot of time, spent on Insta or Tripadvisor, looking for the photography hotspots.”
Don't know were to go? Can't find those hotspots to take a picture of, which will go viral on Insta? A photo tour with a local photographer is a great way to get to know the environment and safe a lot of time, spent on Insta or Tripadvisor, looking for the photography hotspots. This doesn't only count for Bali, but also the rest of the world. It'll cost you some coins though, that's something to keep in mind.
Which kit will you carry along?
I'm just an amateur, with a basic kit in my bag. Because I have too much stuff - don't buy accessoiries you don't need (cause you probably don't) - I had to make a small selection.
A 17-50 mm or 16-85 mm zoom is great for travel and nature. A 50 or 85 mm would be a great extra, if you want to shoot portraits. When big buildings will have to fit your view, add a 10-20 mm lens. Add a sun cap and polarizing and/or nd- filter, an extra battery and you're good to go!

Where to go on Bali?
The surroundings of Ubud were beautiful, as well as the idyllic Gili islands. Beach life, rice fields, temples, people and the world's best sunsets: what could a photographer want more?
