You followed a course, watched YouTube tutorials and shot some Gigabytes of pictures. But you struggle with the basics when you're out in the field. Read this short blog to get yourself going again!


You will need to know your DSLR, know each button, know each menu-option, to use it properly and to the full extend of it's capabilities. But to do so, you will also have to understand the more technical side of photography: exposure. Understanding the exposure triangle is a basic requirement to get those precious moments on camera.

I will tell you about ISO, aperture and shutter speed – the components of achieving a properly exposed photo and show you how to understand these subjects.

Exposure for photographers refers to how an image is recorded by your - super sensitive - camera sensor and how much light is captured. Basically, it determines what the image you capture will look like: too dark (underexposed), too light (underexposed) are just bang on! To achieve the right exposure, you need to consider three things: ISO, Aperture settings and the Shutter Speed.
